Disinfection using ultraviolet radiation is a technology that is increasingly being used to improve the treatment of drinking and pool water. The principle of disinfection involves the photochemical damage of RNA and DNA, proteins, enzymes, or other biologically significant macromolecules.
The effectiveness of disinfection depends on the dose of UV radiation, the type of UV lamp used, and their arrangement in relation to the flow direction of the treated drinking or pool water. To select the appropriate type of UV device, it is necessary to determine and ensure the required dose of UV radiation, which depends on the flow rate and quality of the water in terms of its transparency, i.e., the concentration and type of dissolved and undissolved substances that affect the reflection and absorption of UV radiation.
Low-pressure monochromatic UV lamps emit UV radiation with a wavelength of 254 nm. The intensity of emitted UV energy is only at one level and is strongly dependent on the temperature of the treated water and the flow rate. Consequently, this type of low-pressure UV lamp only has germicidal effects.
The combination of UV radiation with other treatment technologies leads to high water quality. The advantage is the reduction of operational requirements, the savings in dosed chemicals, and safe and easy operation in automatic mode. The disadvantage is the possibility of secondary contamination, so UV radiation alone is not suitable for hygienic protection. In practice, it is therefore combined, for example, with chlorination.
Model | Max. flow | Intensity of radiation | Number of UV lamps: power | Connection DN | Reactors length |
40W/35 m3 | 23 m3/h | 30 mJ/cm2 | 1 x 40 W | D63-50 mm | 943 mm |
- The lamp is hermetically sealed in a housing
- UV radiation is deadly dangerous for the absolute majority of organisms. We use it to destroy algae, parasites, molds, viruses, yeasts, and bacteria present in water
- The lamp and quartz sleeve last for two seasons with it being used for 12 hours a day for 6 months in a year. The device automatically signals the need to replace this set
